SESSION 17 · 10/26 · WORKED
Saturn in colour, with AstroDMx
An AstroDMx night with the 127 on the AZ-GTi and no agent driving: 38 runs of 50 full-size frames, the crescent from 19:29 and Saturn from 21:19. Codex could not reach the rig from its sandbox and only did the processing afterwards, which gave a crescent mosaic, detail crops and Saturn in colour from 300 frames.

127 Mak on the AZ-GTi, SV205 in the Mak, AstroDMx doing the capture. Codex was asked to help drive the rig from 19:12 but its sandbox could not reach the network, so the night was run without it. Written up on 18 October from the AstroDMx logs and the processed files.
The crescent, 19:29 to 19:42. Twenty-one runs of 50 frames at the full 3264 by 2160, exposures 7 to 82 ms. Four more between 20:16 and 20:25.
Saturn, 21:19 to 21:26. Thirteen runs of 50 frames at full size, exposures from 9 to 188 ms and two on auto. Full size is the right call on this camera: unlike 640 by 480 the night before, it keeps every pixel of the planet.
Processing came that evening at 21:35: a crescent mosaic, crops of the terminator, the
seas and the rugged south, and Saturn combined from the ten usable runs, 300 frames, in
colour and mono. All in processed/FINAL on the Xeon.
| time | runs | frames each | exposure | target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 19:29-19:42 | 21 | 50 | 7-82 ms | crescent |
| 20:16-20:25 | 4 | 50 | 57-100 ms, auto | Moon |
| 21:19-21:26 | 13 | 50 | 9-188 ms, auto | Saturn |
What I got wrong
- Left the AstroDMx profile on the 102. The logs say 1300 mm; it was the 127.
- Changed Saturn's exposure every run. It still stacked, but ten runs at one setting would combine more cleanly.
Left for next time
- A 127 profile in AstroDMx.
- Saturn at one exposure, a few thousand frames, full size or a true crop.
